Welcome.Or perhaps I should say...
Welcome in.
If you've found your way here, I have a feeling we already have something in common.
This is a place where classic films are watched more than once. Where champagne is poured for no special occasion. Where fresh flowers belong on ordinary Tuesdays, 500-thread-count sheets are never overrated, and a great novel has every right to interrupt your plans for the evening.
Frank Sinatra is still my ringtone (I refuse to apologize for that), while Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Nat King Cole, and Sarah Vaughan have long been the soundtrack to my life. James Baldwin rarely sits untouched on my bookshelf, and yes... cookies-and-cream ice cream is still my greatest weakness. In fact, I wandered through Italy determined to find the perfect cookies-and-cream gelato—and eventually I did. I'll save that story for another issue.
Then there's Laura.
Otto Preminger's 1944 masterpiece found me when I was a little girl and has never really let me go. David Raksin's unforgettable score still has the power to stop me in my tracks. Some films become more than favorites. They quietly become part of who we are.
For a long time, though, I believed I needed to make myself smaller.
I spent years wondering whether I was too curious, too enthusiastic, too romantic, too fascinated by old films, beautiful hotels, museums, handwritten letters, and all the wonderfully peculiar things that made me feel most alive.
At one point, someone I loved believed I was too quirky, too high-maintenance, or simply too different.
As it turns out...
He was wrong.
I wasn't too much.
I was simply becoming who I had been all along.
I had just been hiding.
The very things I once questioned became the very things that brought me joy. The moment I stopped apologizing for who I was, was the moment I discovered the happiest version of myself.
What Makes a Beautiful Life?
I've spent much of my life asking myself that question.
What makes you happy?
What makes you feel like you're living a beautiful life?
Is it success?
Recognition?
Or is it something much quieter—a favorite film, a meaningful conversation, a city you've never explored, a perfectly made cappuccino, a handwritten letter, fresh flowers on the table, or deciding that tonight is reason enough to celebrate?
I don't pretend to have all the answers.
But I do know this.
The life I'd been searching for wasn't somewhere else.
It was waiting for me to finally say yes—to create what had been inside me all along.
So that's exactly what I did.
I let myself shine.
Without worry.
Without fear.
Without apology.
And somewhere along the way...
I found myself again.
That's how Table Six Awaits was born.
It's an invitation to celebrate style, culture, film, beauty, travel, books, music, and the small moments that remind us life is worth showing up for.
If you've found your way here, I hope you'll stay awhile.
We'll discover beautiful places, remarkable stories, timeless films, and perhaps even a little more about ourselves along the way.
So here's my toast...
To living fully.
To remaining curious.
To choosing beauty.
To beginning again whenever life asks us to.
To setting the table, even when it's only for ourselves.
To finding joy in the ordinary.
And to taking our very best shot, because as far as any of us know, we only get one.
I'm so glad you're here.
Cheers.
Cheers to us—
but especially...
Cheers to me.
It's about time, girl.
With love,
Margeaux Channing
